Lae police apprehend notorious criminal

Two suspects were arrested by police after robbing a shop in the Morobe provincial capital on Saturday afternoon.

“There was an armed robbery at about 4pm yesterday at a Chinese shop situated next to Saint Mary's Primary School, away from the main shopping centre,” Lae Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr said.

The new sector patrol, installed by the Lae Police Command, had been effective, with timely responses to major crimes in the city.

“The response time and men on foot were less than ten minutes,” Wagambie Jnr said.

“Two suspects apprehended with their weapons and stolen cash.

“Among those apprehended was Amon Ben, a notorious criminal who has been evading police for a couple of months.

“He has been involved in a string of robberies around the Kamkumung, China Town and Eriku areas.

“One of the robberies he is suspected of being involved in was the Fone Haus takings robbery, which took place outside ANZ Bank.

“He has been harassing and intimidating the community. His luck ran out and this time was apprehended by Police.”
