K1.9m paid as pensions

More than K1.9m had been paid as pensions by the New Ireland Provincial Government to the old and people living with disability in Kavieng district.

The payments were done recently by the Provincial administration to a total of 4,692 old people.

It was all smiles and tears of joy for senior New Ireland citizens above the age of 65 and people living with disabilities in Kavieng District as they felt the passionate embrace of the Government when they received their 2018 pension delivered to their doorstep.

A total of 4,692 both males and females received their pensions with much gratitude.

The sum total of K1,995,200, inclusive of the administrative payout operation costs were paid.

New Ireland Governor Sir Julius Chan said though K360 may not be a lot of money; it is the Governments deed of respect and value for these marginalized group of people in the society.

Meantime, Sir J maintained that the Namatanai District pensions will not be paid as it was promised to be paid by the Namatanai MP Walter Schnaubelt.

He said the majority in Namatanai District chose a different policy, which would issue a higher amount of K1000 promised by their MP.

“We have to respect the people’s democratic right. The majority in Namatanai District chose a different policy, which would issue a higher amount to them so I respect their right to receive a higher amount of K1000 promised by their Member.”

“There is nothing to hide, the people rejected me and chose a leader who promised to pay a higher pension at K1,000 and I have to respect their decision.

“If they change their minds and want to join my team they have to come through the normal channel through the JPP & BPC process.”
