Juffa: Bangladesh syndicate operating in PNG

Allegations were raised in Parliament today of a Bangladesh syndicate operating out of the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations office.

Northern Governor Gary Juffa said: “The Bangladesh syndicate is proliferating the entire nation, and the syndicate is working with blessing from (Labour) Department.”

The Minister for Labour and Industrial Relations Benjamin Poponawa said he is unaware of the allegation raised and will seek clarification from the department before he can comment.

But the Minister admitted corruption had become a norm in many government departments.

Meanwhile, Poponawa said the English language is a prerequisite all persons must meet before given employment permits to work in Papua New Guinea.

He said he does not know how people continue to get employed without passing the English language requirement
