Jiwaka aims to register entire populace

PNG Civil and Identity Registrar, Michael Kumung, wants Jiwaka to be the first province to have its entire population registered under the NID system.

Kumung said this during the opening of the Jiwaka Provincial NID Office in Banz on Monday.

He said the NID program was critical so that the government can properly plan developments in the Province.

The launching was attended by Minister for National Planning & Monitoring, Richard Maru.

The small township of Banz came alive yesterday in song and dance as delegates for the opening arrived, which included Jiwaka Governor Dr. William Tongamp and South Anglimp MP, Joe Kuli.

Registrar Kumung, who hails from the province, said it was his goal to have Jiwaka’s population fully registered as this was a key government service.

Governor Tongamp informed locals that with the upcoming LLG elections, it was imperative for potential voters to get registered as NIDs will be used during polling.

Meanwhile, Minister Maru said plans are already afoot to open a new office in the Province. And he called for cooperation from all political levels.

The NID office immediately began registrations with Governor Tongamp being the first.
