Inmate on the run

An inmate from the Bomana Correctional Institute has escaped CS custody while undergoing medical treatment at the Port Moresby General Hospital.

Bomana Correctional Institute is appealing to citizens to report any sighting of the escapee.

Moses Maina escaped from the Port Moresby General Hospital on 23 May after he was taken there for medical treatment on orders of the National Court.

Bomana Correctional Institute Commander, Haraha Kiddy Keko, said the inmate is still on the run and has appealed to citizens to report to either CS or police if they do sight Maina.

The Commander can be contacted on 7212 0579 and 7660 7100.

An order for his apprehension has also been issued by the District Court.

Maina, of Western Highlands Province, has two criminal cases in court.

He was arrested and stood trial in the National Court over allegations he sent death threats to Police Commissioner Gari Baki using four different SIM cards between August and November, 2016.

Maina is not a police officer, but he was a close informant of the Commissioner. He is awaiting the National Court’s verdict in this case.

He also has a fraud case still in the District Court over allegations from August last year.

The District Court issued an arrest warrant after he failed to turn up in court. That warrant is due for review on June 29.
