Homebrew activities concern police

Manus police say homebrew and drug related activities are on the rise in Lorengau town, and are appealing to the newly-elected ward councilors and LLG presidents to work closely with police to address the issues.

Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu, said over the weekend members of the Mobile Squad 10 confiscated a number of homebrew implements, better known as ‘wara galas’, at Dungoumasih village outside Lorengau town.

The team picked up two gas cylinders and seven large containers as well as a local man and had him arrested and charged for being in possession of homebrew implements.

Yapu said law and order is not the responsibility of Police alone but for all to work together and address the issue and create a peaceful and conducive environment to live together in the community.
