The Written Expression Examination for Grade 12 will go ahead as scheduled on Monday, August 7.
Secretary for Education, Dr Uke Kombra, is calling on the newly-elected leaders and authorities in the provinces to support the students by ensuring that the examination is conducted as planned.
Dr Kombra made this call due to his concern that there are still some schools throughout the country that are being affected by election-related activities and issues, resulting in many teachers and students not turning up for classes.
“I have already issued instructions for all teachers and students to commence Term 3 on Monday, July 10, and July 17, for those schools which were used as counting venues. However, I am being informed that many teachers and students are still not turning up for classes,” Dr Kombra said.
The Secretary said he is especially concerned with the election-related violence and disturbances in the Western Highlands and Enga Provinces.
“The future of our children is very critical at this time. This examination is very important in determining their future therefore, we all must ensure that they sit the examination on the date set.
“This is an annual activity on our calendar and we will not postpone it,” the Secretary said.
Dr Kombra added that the Department is aware of the current situation and the risks involved in the transportation of the examination materials and has strategised to ensure that all the schools receive the materials in time to conduct the exam.
“I am appealing to all our newly elected leaders and authorities in the provinces to assist the department by ensuring that our teachers and students return to classes without fear and also our Grade 12 students sit their Written Expression examination on Monday, August 7.”
