Good detective work pays off

Good intelligence work from Lae police has resulted in confiscating of illegal weapons in the Morobe Capital last weekend.

Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jnr said two factory made pistols were recovered last Saturday.

The first pistol was recovered at 13A Market, Bumbu, after Police searched three men in a parked vehicle.

The police boss said detectives spotted one of the men, who matched the description of a suspect that was involved in an armed robbery at a wholesale company earlier this year.

“A quick search found a factory made pistol .9mm calibre and live bullets,” stated Wagambie Jnr.

“One of the suspects was cleared and released whilst two of them were arrested and charged for the weapon and also armed robbery.

“Good detective work has paid off in the retrieval of firearms from criminal elements,” added the Lae police boss.

The other pistol that was confiscated on the same day was at a location between Bumbu Settlement and Sipaya village.

Wagambie Jnr said two suspects were apprehended and a revolver was recovered.

Also last week, Lae Police recovered a police issued, factory-made pistol grip shotgun stolen by criminals from Nadzab Police in an armed robbery last year.
