Girls need education to make better decisions: Advisor

Girls need to be healthy to go to school and get educated to make better decisions in life.

NCD Health Services technical advisor women's health, Dr Lutty Amos, made the statement during the commemoration of International Women's Day yesterday.

She said women must be appreciated for playing a big role in juggling motherhood, parenting and work.

Dr Amos was part of a panel of discussion consisting of prominent women in a first-of-its-kind event.

Members in the panel included Ambassador of the United States to PNG, Catherine Ebert-Gray, NCDHS coordinator of district health Dr Joyce Sauk and Lynda Babao O'Neill.

Ambassador Ebert-Gray highlighted that there's still work to be done for access to health care, which is an ongoing issue for rural PNG.

Dr Sauk said the event brings together women who have already fought the right to challenge and encourage other women in all sectors while O'Neill commended the women of PNG who work hard and strive to be successful in life.

The event, Women of the World-PNG Chapter, was organised by the Pacific International Hospital.

It aimed to bring policymakers of the nation and grassroot level workers together on the same platform for a dialogue about women uplifting and health.

The discussion topics were based on healthy womanhood, work life balance, medical issues and need of preventive health.
