GG expresses sadness at Lady Kaludia’s passing

Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio has expressed sadness at the passing of Lady Kaludia Matane, wife of former Governor-General Sir Paulias Matane.

The late Lady Kaludia Matane passed away on Tuesday afternoon at Vunapope hospital in East New Britain Province.

“It is with a heavy heart that I received news of the passing of Lady Kaludia Matane,” Sir Michael said in a statement.

“Lady Kaludia had stood by Sir Paulias throughout his distinguished career and traveled extensively with Sir Paulias wherever his duty required.

“From humble beginnings, Lady Kaludia personified the grace and sense of duty as a wife and a Papua New Guinean woman.

“She was well loved and looked upon by women in our country. She served our nation with great distinction and was awarded the Star of Melanesia (CSM) in 2009.

“Lady Kaludia Matane was also made Commander (Sister) of the Order of The Most Venerable Order of St. John of Jerusalem (CStJ) in 2006.

“To Sir Paulias, I convey on behalf of Lady Esmie and staff and their families at Government House our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to you and your children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, people of Viviran and Toma LLG as well as East New Britain, on the loss of your beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother Lady Kaluda Matane, CSM, CStJ. “We pray for peace and comfort during this difficult time,” Grand Chief Sir Michael said.
