Funeral for late judge today

A ceremonial sitting is underway at the National and Supreme Court for the late Judge, Leka Nama Nablu.

The sitting started at 9am before her funeral service at the St Joseph Catholic Church.

The late Justice Nablu will be repatriated to Lae, Morobe Province, on Tuesday. She will be laid to rest at Yalu village on Wednesday.

The late judge passed on in the early hours of Sunday morning, 28th July, in Hong Kong whilst receiving medical treatment. 

Her casket arrived early Saturday morning from Hong Kong.

Members of the legal fraternity, close friends, relatives, staff of the National Judiciary Services and Judges of the National and Supreme Court were on hand to receive her body.

Justice Nablu at the time of her passing was a judge based at the Waigani National Court complex in Port Moresby.

Her passing came at the peak of her career, while serving her first term as a Judge of the National and Supreme Court.

The fourth local female judge to be appointed to the bench, the late Justice Nablu served two 12-month terms as an acting judge from June 2014 before being appointed by the Judicial and Legal Services Commission on 11th December 2015, to serve as a Judge on the bench of the National & Supreme Courts for a period of ten years.
