Disputed relationship leaves three injured

Three men have sustained serious injuries over a disputed relationship between a man and a woman.

According to Gerehu Police, the couple had been going out a few years back and had a child but the relationship later broke up because the woman’s relatives disapproved of the man.

The couple had lost contact until recently, after the woman had joined the Bomana Police Training College. This was when the man allegedly started pursuing her into having a relationship with him again.

According to the woman’s statement, their families then agreed to sit together and discuss the matter, which they also brought to the attention of the police.

Police say both families were to meet at the Waigani Police Station yesterday to fix the matter but only the woman’s family turned up.

They later got a call from the other family that the meet will take place at Gerehu Stage 5.

However, when they arrived, fight broke out between the two families.

Gerehu Police Station Commander, Robert Kurei, confirmed that the injured men were brought to the hospital while the back windscreen of a small taxi was smashed during the confrontation.

Kurei says the matter is currently being negotiated between the two families. They will discuss the status of the relationship and what actions to be taken.

Meanwhile, Gerehu has been quiet during Christmas Day.

The PSC commends his men for keeping the communities safe during the celebrations.
