Customs warns importers

Customs PNG has issued a warning to illegal importers, especially those who fail to declare their products.

Customs Chief Commissioner, Ray Paul, says: “You may be running away from Customs now but we will catch up with you.”

The Customs ASYCUDA System plays a big role in electronic reporting and processing system for all import, export and excise entries lodged with Customs for declaration.

“The system is very important and it’s from that system that Customs is able to pick up, profile and target all those that are not declared.”

Paul stressed that the only thing required from importers is to declare everything correctly to Customs officials rather than getting caught trying to hide their imports.

He says Customs has done well and will continue to deliver with exemplary results in the performance of its mandated core functions of border security, international travel & trade facilitation, community protection and revenue collection.

“Customs’ work is very challenging and it’s about having the right people in place, people who want to work, who are diligent and who want to deliver for this country,” Paul says.
