Couple arrested over porn production

A couple in Manus was arrested and charged by Police last week over the alleged production of pornographic materials.

They are expected to appear at the Lorengau District Court on Tuesday to answer to their charges.

The 36-year-old woman from Pere village was arrested by police on Jan 26 while the man, also 36, from Jekal village, was arrested on Jan 27.

Both were charged for producing pornographic pictures and movies at the harbour side hotel.

They were later released on K500 bail each.

Police alleged that the couple, between the months of September and October 2016, booked a room at the hotel where they were involved in the production of pornography.

Acting provincial police commander, senior inspector David Yapu, said the matter came to their attention after they found a memory card in front of the Police station in December 2016.

"Police searched through the memory card and found the couple having sex and exposing their naked bodies in a room at harbour side hotel.

"Our CID personnel pursued their investigation and came across the wife, picked her up and interviewed her.

“She admitted to being involved in the production of pornographic pictures and movies with husband. The husband was picked up the next day and interviewed. He also admitted to committing the offence," Yapu said.

PPC Yapu is now appealing to young men and women to discourage such indecent actions as it is morally wrong and against our Christian principles. It also gives our community and people a bad name.
