Chief hopes for Members, not managers

It is hoped that the winner of the South Bougainville open seat will be a policy maker and not a paymaster, or manager.

A village chief from Malabita village in Buin, Mathias Wape, told Loop PNG that the system of becoming paymasters leads to corruption.

“This applies to every other politician in PNG as well, paying people is your staff’s responsibility and not you Members. That is so wrong and it just reflects to the people as to what kind of a leader you are,” Chief Wape said.

“My appeal to whoever wins must not be like this because this is becoming a trend for some mandated leaders, and we do not want that for south Bougainville.

“Once in the floor of parliament, you have been mandated to serve your people according to a set of rules, and those rules must be followed like being transparent.

“Becoming a manager instead of being a member is not transparent at all,” stressed the chief.
