Busy year for PNGDF

2018 will be a busy year for the Papua New Guinea Defence Force.

This year will see the hosting of the APEC Leaders’ Summit in PNG and the PNG Defence Force is expected to play a significant role in ensuring that security and the environment is conducive for 21 APEC world leaders.

This was reiterated in the PNGDF Commander’s keynote address in yesterday’s mass.

Brigadier-General Gilbert Toropo said: “It is in my view that as we start 2018, we commit the year to God as you and I know our calling is to serve our government and to serve our people.”

Toropo reiterated that the PNGDF has committed to put the 2013 White Paper preamble before God therefore it is PNGF’s personal commitment as the force begins 2018.

He adds that the APEC leaders’ summit is one task of PNGDF’S mandated responsibilities for 2018, apart from the normal patrols along the country’s borders.

“The tasks are huge. Resources are limited, limited capacity in the right type of capabilities that we want to take the force forward in delivering our constitutional mandated obligations.”

He said this was the reason why it was important to commit the beginning of the year with prayer.
