Bulolo road work needs immediate attention: Basil

Deputy Opposition Leader Sam Basil wants the Works Department to immediately fix the wash away Warabung Bridge in his electorate.

Basil questioned Works Minister Francis Awesa of the delay in maintenance of the bridge which is affecting travelling public and also businesses in his Bulolo District and neighbouring Menyamya District.

The road link is used by Hidden Valley Mine, Zenag Chicken, Bulolo Forest Products and also soon to open Wafi-Golpu Mine to Morobe Province capital, Lae.

He added that Nagalimu connecting Wau – Bulolo is yet to be upgraded 6 months on and the Warabung Bridge between Wampit and Timini Villages is still not fixed after been washed away last week.

Awesa in response said, the National Executive Council on Monday had approved K20 million to fix the Nine-Mile to Wau – Bulolo roads.

But that got the ire of the Bulolo MP who wanted a short term solution to fix the roads before the 2017 National Elections.

“We have to talk about fixing the roads immediately because we have three months before we go to the elections,” Basil said, in a point of order question to the Works Minister’s response.

And when the Opposition Leader Don Polye raised a Point of Order after the Works Minister called his name, the Speaker stepped in and said the question has already been answered.
