Body of baby found floating at Koki Settlement

A baby was found dead and floating under the home of one of the residents this morning around 8am at the Wanigela settlement at Koki.

Home owner, Savisa Puria told Loop PNG that her granddaughter had just woke up from bed and stepped out of the house when she spotted what looked like a jellyfish.

“My granddaughter thought it was a jellyfish and came running into the house to tell me.”

The baby’s was head caught in the pipeline that was running under the bridge.

Savisa says she came outside to take a look and noted that it was a baby’s head and called out for some of the boys to help remove it from the water.

“The baby must’ve been aborted by a mother and looked to be about five to six months premature.”

Another male witness, Foster Wari said, the body was black in color except the head adding that it could have been in the water for two to three days prior from somewhere and floated into the area during the high tide.

“We could see that the baby’s limbs had already formed and intact when we pulled it out of the water.”

Police were alerted and residents called the ambulance to come and pick up the baby.

Police will be looking into the matter to find out who the baby belongs to.
