Basil confident with Government

The Pangu Pati leader, Sam Basil, has assured Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, that his party will be loyal to the Government for this term of Parliament.

Basil made this remarks when thanking the Prime Minister for giving an additional portfolio to the party on Wednesday.

Bulolo MP and Pangu Pati leader, Sam Basil, said he had made a right move to join the government despite the many negative criticisms against their move in September last year.

He said initially his 15 Pangu members were happy when they were given a ministry and they are more than happy that the Prime Minister has given them yet another ministry and another member in Cabinet.

Meantime, Basil who was in the opposition in the last term of parliament along with his party, the Pangu party, were one of the O’Neill Government’s most outspoken critics.

The Pangu party under his leadership conducted a very aggressive and successful campaign in the Morobe province where many senior Government MPs from the last term were rejected and his party members were elected in as MPs.

When making the move at that time, Basil said he had served from the Opposition ranks long enough to know that funds for district services improvement program, and appropriated development project funds, can be hard to access for Opposition MPs.
