Attackers to be charged

Police have indicated that the villagers who held and attempted to torture a man yesterday over sorcery allegations will be facing charges.

The NCD Metropolitan police commander, Perou N’Dranou says that the situation in the Tatana village is still tense with police maintaining a presence on ground.

A meeting will be held with village elders to see how best police they can resolve the situation before tensions rise again.

N’Dranou outlined that while the man will also be investigated for rape allegations brought against him while in custody, the attackers will still need to be held accountable for taking the law into their own hands.

The Met Supt says that his main priority now is to contain the situation while also making sure that parties involved who have broken the laws are dealt with accordingly.

He has indicated that based on how investigations proceed those responsible for the capture and attempted torture of the man will most likely be charged with Inflicting gross bodily harm and injuries.
