Atiyafa submits DSIP acquittals for Henganofi

The 2016 District Services Improvement Program (DSIP) acquittal reports for Henganofi District were submitted on Friday to the Department of Implementation & Rural Development (DIRD).

Sitting Member of Parliament for the Henganofi electorate, Robert Atiyafa presented the acquittals before traveling to his electorate for the nomination to retain his Henganofi seat.

When presenting his acquittals, Atiyafa called for implementing agencies to be well funded to effectively carry out monitoring and evaluation of services improvement programs throughout the country.

In a statement, Atiyafa said the Government’s development grants for provinces, districts and LLGs over the last five years would be a waste if there is no monitoring and evaluation conducted.

He stated that DIRD is currently not fully funded as the mandated government agency to carry out routine inspection and monitoring of projects implemented through SIP grants in the country.

“These huge grants have to be reported to the National Executive Council, relevant government agencies and development partners so that the people of PNG know where their funds have been put to,” Atiyafa said.

Atiyafa said it is vital that the people must know the number of roads and bridges, schools, aid posts, sub-health centres have been built so far and number of public servants working in the districts including police personnel.

He added that the Government should allocate funds for DIRD to go down to the districts and help and guide district officials.

DIRD should also conduct awareness on SIP so that the programs would be successfully implemented in all districts and provinces.
