Arrested for allegedly chopping off woman’s hand

A 26-year-old man has been arrested by police after he allegedly chopped off a woman’s hand with a bush knife.

The accused, Kanah Pahun, from Yiringou village in the Lelemadih-Bupi Chupei LLG, Lorengau District, Manus, was arrested and charged for unlawful wounding on Monday this week.

Police allege he chopped off a woman’s left hand on Friday, March 3, following an argument.

Pahun was apprehended by the local community and handed over to police. He is expected to appear at the Lorengau District Court today.

Manus acting provincial police commander, Senior Inspector David Yapu, said the victim’s hand was chopped off after she tried to intervene and protect another man from being chopped with the bush knife.

She is reported to be in a stable condition at the Lorengau General Hospital.
