ABG strengthens link with UNOPS

The Autonomous Bougainville Government (ABG) and the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) have signed a memorandum of understanding to forge a stronger working relationship.

The MoU, signed on 25 November in Port Moresby, will pave the way for more efficient and effective collaborations between the ABG Department of Lands and UNOPS, with expansion into the provision of project management, procurement and infrastructure development services in Bougainville.

ABG Minister for Lands, Physical Planning, Environment and Conservation, Amanda Masono, says this arrangement will provide a valuable boost to her Ministry and Department, particularly in progressing towards a green economy for Bougainville.

“Our department and Ministry is in a strategic position of influence in leading Bougainville’s transition to the Green Economy, simply because of the broad areas of mandated functions and responsibilities that fall within our affairs,” Minister Masono said.

“This partnership with UNOPS opens opportunities to delivering a more equitable, prosperous and sustainable future for Bougainville.”

UNOPS regional director for Asia and the Pacific, Sanjay Mathur, says the agreement will allow the UNOPS to play a stronger role in supporting resilient infrastructure development for the people of Bougainville.
