67,500 students sit for Gr 10 exam

67,500 students in Grade 10 are sitting their final examinations.

The exams start today (October 9) to Friday, October 13, 2017.

These students are from 302 high and secondary schools throughout the country.

Out of this number of schools, 170 are high schools with classes up to Grade 10 only.

The students will be sitting for a total of 12 subjects.

Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra said this examination is very important for the students because they contribute to their final assessments for the year.

“School assessments are very important because they determine whether students can be selected to the next level of education or get employed,” Dr Kombra stated.

He urged parents, guardians and teachers to give as much support as possible to help students prepare to sit for the examination.

The Secretary also reminded everyone that cheating will not be taken lightly.

“The penalty for cheating or assisting to cheat in the National Examination is Non Certification. I urge the external invigilators, schools and inspectors to report any malpractices to the Measurement Services Division for analysis and action,” Dr Kombra said.

He urged all concerned parties to make every effort to give all the students and schools “a fair go” and to be honest and say NO to examination cheating.

“On behalf of the Department of Education, I wish all our Grade 10 students the very best in their final examination.”
