​Police commanders report peaceful celebrations

​Independence celebrations throughout the country have been celebrated peace, with many Provincial Police Commanders thanking the people.

Apart from drunken youths disturbing communities, police in most provinces were out in full force during the Independence weekend to ensure everyone celebrated Independence peacefully.

Provincial Police Commander for New Ireland, John Midi, said he was grateful to the local communities in the province for ensuring that the youths were kept in line with traditional values.

“Thus, celebrating the country’s independence peacefully.”

PPC Yapu said the way the people of Manus celebrated Independence shows how they have matured over the 42 years; understanding the significance of Independence Day.

PPC for Northern Province, Lincoln Gerari, also praised the people of Oro for peaceful celebrations, thanking the organisers of the Cultural Show at Popondetta Secondary for uniting all the people.
