Dept to transform settlements to suburbs

Work has already begun on outstanding issues on settlements and villages with the traditional landowners and settlement population.

This was stated by the Minister for Lands & Physical Planning and member for Moresby South, Justin Tkatchenko, during his official parade visit to the electorate yesterday at the Badili Police Station.

Speaking to the families of police officers and the people of Moresby South, he assured them that as of last week, the NCD Governor and he have set up the NCD Land unit and that this week, the department will be looking at transforming settlements into suburbs.

“That land unit will secure all public space; road reserves, drainage reserves, schools, markets, health clinics including parks and recreational areas that the public deserves will be secured for the future generation.”

Tkatchenko said it was not a dream nor was it an election propaganda, stating further that he looked forward to making this come to reality; in finally giving the people of Moresby South the security that they deserve.

“We will be working with you over the next five years to secure our settlements and villages as well as work with our customary landowners for the benefit of our people,” he adds.
