Melbourne Cup recap: Yacht Club

The Melbourne Cup was a big event for the entire hospitality industry in PNG.

Various locations in Port Moresby held live screenings on Tuesday of the game while also providing a betting shop.

The Royal Papua Yacht Club is among the first in the country, who started this event, since its inception.

According to Ashish Rumar Tripathi, the club manager, planning of this event began at least three months in advance.

The planning goes down to smallest detail: table numbers, decorations, wine choices.

“Wine and food pairing takes a bit of time. Our chef’s do a phenomenal job to prepare innovative dishes,” said Tripathi.

The event yesterday saw about 190 people, both members and guests.

Activities included betting which opened up at 9:30am, pop-up stalls, raffle draws.

Highlights were a mini fashion show, organized in partnership with the Fashion Designers and Retailers association.

The runway featured local designs worn by the six contestants of the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant PNG, as well as staff of the yacht club.

Tripathi says it was a long day, but eventful day.
