Judiciary hosts cancer awareness fundraiser

Members of the judiciary and National Judiciary Services staff took time out to observe the month of breast cancer awareness.

A first-of-its-kind for the sector, staff at the Waigani National Court organised a breast cancer awareness fundraiser today.

One of the organisers, Justice Leka Nablu, believes awareness campaign should be conducted not only to women but men as well, until everyone appreciates how it can be detected earlier.

“The menfolk can also educate their wives and daughters. Together we can try to at least make people aware so that they can seek help earlier rather than later,” she says.

Proceeds and donations from the event will go to a selected non-government organisation or the cancer ward.

“We hope to make it an annual thing and at the same time, do more awareness on breast cancer and cervical cancer.

“It’s not only for the cancer foundation, cancer wards at the hospital but for everyone to bring the awareness to everyone,” the judge adds.

The event was supported by the PNG Cancer Foundation, who provided pamphlets and posters that were made available for court users and staff at the foyer.
