Gordon health centre now open

The Gordon Urban Health Centre is now open for business.

The centre was reopened today by Member for Moresby North-East, John Kaupa, and acting advisor of Provincial Health Authority, Jerry Tanumei.

The centre reopened with additional features including an emergency room, mini operating theatre and pharmacy.

Clinic manager Sister Ombunaka confirmed the clinic will provide tuberculosis, STI outpatient and well-baby services.

The clinic, before its closure 2 years ago, attended to 400 outpatient and 10 emergency cases per day.  She said this number is expected to increase.

Sister Ombunaka says as the clinic expands its services, its human capacity has to expand too.

She appealed to the National Department of Health and NCD Health Services for their support in this regard.

Meanwhile, the Gordon Police Station is committed to partnering with the reopened health centre.

Gordon’s is known for its notoriety and the clinic and its staff’s safety would be at risk.

First Constable Marven Pepa guaranteed security to ensure undisrupted services for the benefit of the public.
