53 youths get certificated in yoga

Fifty-three youths in the nation’s capital received certificates in teaching skills, moral ethics and yoga after passing an intensive Youth of Change Yoga Teacher Training on Monday, August 20.

The Youth of Change Yoga Teacher Training is part of NCDC’s Active City Development Program behaviour change campaign targeted at young people.

Most of the graduands come from broken families, are unemployed, former inmates, bag snatchers, school dropouts and drug addicts.

The teacher training advocates moral values on non-violence, truthfulness, contentment, and dedication to God for the highest good of all.

Speaking at the graduation, NCD Governor Powes Parkop said the program intends to enhance the quality of life to live in a value driven mindset.

Parkop said the residents have a tendency to be prone to negative behaviour and lack goals and values in life, citing it to be a major challenge for the municipal authority and that this program was a game changer.

City Manager Bernard Kipit said the program is attracting city residents, especially youths, and added they are taking responsibility and ownership and making progress to make the city safe, active, liveable and clean.

The City Manager guaranteed that this innovative program is working and would be sustained for a long period of time.

The graduands will go for further training for Diploma in Yoga Teaching after one year with the British Wheel Of Yoga, an endorsed and accredited program with the Sports Council Of England.
