Coca-Cola supports Musik Awards

Coca-Cola continues to support the diverse music and talent in the country.

Its signature platform launched recently in the country is the Coke studio; bringing together artists from different genres, eras and regions.

Now getting on board as the major sponsor for the PNG Musik Awards, Coca-Cola is bringing a number of these artists to perform at PNG’s biggest music event.

The Musik Awards is another opportunity for these artists, some of whom are from underground genres, not widely known by the PNG audience.

Planet Native, a hip-hop group, is one of such and has been selected to perform at the event as the night opener.

The boys will be featured by Noxxy Dawg, another emerging hip-hop artist in the music.

They described this as an honour and a positive step into mainstream organised events.

PNGFM general manager, Charles Taylor, said there is the possibility of including a category that recognises underground genres like hip-hop, rock and reggae.

He also says radio stations under this broadcasting house will play their part by playing their tracks, but this is selected by a committee based on what music suits the audience’s taste.

Two other coke studio artists, DPJ and Kronos, will also perform at the night as entertainment.

These two are also young in the music scene but have quickly become national favourites with songs like Miok Bilong Tsak Valley.

Other Coke studio artists to perform are Tarvin Tounie and Stagaja band. Some Coke studio artists like Mereani Masani were nominated for the awards categories.

Coke will be awarding the Justin Kili award, best new artist, and artist of the year, song of the year and the People’s choice of the year award.
