Baiwa brand celebrates women

Not only can she design shoes and clothing, she can compose and sing!

In a usual Baiwa fashion, Natasha Tamanabae surprised the crowd with a smooth contemporary song composed, specifically to accompany her latest collection.

Tamanabae’s song was to celebrate the lives of all women – perfectly accompanying her collection ‘Celebrations of a Woman’.

The Baiwa brand of Elite Fashion Club PNG showcased its latest collection at the Miss Pacific Islands Pageant (MPIP) PNG project runway.

While the collection is inspired by the simplest phase in life – maturity of a young woman, the designs were pure sophistication.

Baiwa brand is reflective of the Oro culture, where designer Natasha Tamanabae is from.

The story told through this collection is the journey of a girl in traditional Oro society.

When a girl reaches puberty, her family puts her in a newly built ‘gara’ or small house where she lives for several months and is not allowed to do any work or socialize with anyone.

Her return into the normal village life is welcomed with joyous celebrations and feasting…as she is now ready for marriage.

Each of the seven designs told this story. Traditional dance “BAIWA” was staged to introduce the collection’s traditionally inspired dress, inspired by a beautiful butterfly.

The design itself was symbolic of the butterfly that has left the sacred protected place and is now a full-grown woman.

“Her arrival is nothing short of magnificent as her place in society is significant. She is ready for courtship and marriage and most importantly, she is a woman of substance who can leave a legacy behind.”
