Avril Lavigne hits back at Mark Zuckerberg's Nickelback joke

Avril Lavigne says Mark Zuckerberg's joke about Nickelback "is in poor taste".

He made a gag in a video teasing his artificial intelligence app, Jarvis, which is voiced by Morgan Freeman.

When the Facebook founder says "play some good Nickelback songs" Jarvis replies "I'm sorry Mark, I'm afraid I can't do that - there are no good Nickelback songs".

"Good. That was actually a test," Zuckerberg responds.

The singer, who is married to the band's frontman Chad Kroeger, took offence at the joke and got in touch with Facebook.

"Many people use your products - some people love them and some people don't," she wrote.

"Either way, you're allowed your musical opinion however, your jab at Nickelback is in poor taste.

"When you have a voice like yours, you may want to consider being more responsible with promoting bullying, especially given what's going on in the world today."

She ended the message with a series of hastags "say not to bullying", "the joke is old" and "Nickelback have sold over 50 million albums".

Mark Zuckerberg is by no means the first person to have a pop at the Canadian band.

It's become so much of a trend that earlier this year a Finnish student looked back at 14 years of Nickelback reviews to work out why so many people claim to dislike them.

She found earlier reviews weren't so negative, suggesting as their success grew, so did the hate.
