2017 Heineken DJ competition kicks off

The 2017 Heineken Live Your Music DJ Contest begins tonight at the Lamana Gold Club.

It will be double trouble! Two DJ Competitions rolled into one - the A grade division to find the Rising Star DJ 2017 and the B grade Rookie DJ 2017.

This year has attracted 24 DJ’s in total, 12 in each division, who will be competing over 7 nights.

Assistant Manager Jacquie Simons says the competition will basically be the same as last year.

“What we're trying to do is improve the quality of DJs in the country and promote upcoming DJs through mentorship and promotion as well,” she said.

An example of such is B Grade winner from last year, DJ Fix who will now be competing as an A grade DJ.

2016 A grade winner DJ Dirty Fingerz, however isn’t allowed to compete.

But he is the face of Heineken, the title that came with his win in the competition last year.

Simons says he has gone on to do gigs around the country as the Heineken DJ and is scheduled to fly to Australia later on in the year by Heineken.

The winning price is also the same where the winner of Rising Star DJ becomes part of the Heineken PNG DJs and will win a DJ console (DJ equipment) and a trip to Australia to spend time with Ministry of Sound DJs, and the Rookie DJ gets mentorship during the competition from the A grade competing DJs and the winner gets a DJ console.

Simons says there’s been quite a few new faces in the competition, most in the B Grade division and a few in the A grade division of this competition.

The competition kicks off tonight at 10pm, free entry before 10pm for both guys & ladies.
