Units moving in to provinces

The 200 police mobile squad members and 100 soldiers who were deployed to the Highlands region earlier this week are part of the response unit for Hela, Enga and Southern Highlands provinces

Assistant Commissioner of Police and Divisional Commander for Highlands West, Kaiglo Ambane, confirms that units have started moving into the three provinces.

Ambane says the deployment should end once the last group of PNGDF soldiers have flown in from Moem Barracks, East Sepik Province.

Due to funding constraints, the deployment of the units was delayed but Ambane says the units should be ready and in place come June 24th.

Ambane urges the people, as well as candidates of all three provinces, to help the security personnel and Electoral Commission officials during polling to conduct a safe, peaceful and fair election for their provinces.

The security personnel will be stationed at the stations before polling begins and will continue until the declaration of the seats.
