Respect the democratic process: Lae Police Boss

Intending candidates contesting the Lae Open electorate in Morobe Province must respect the electoral process.

That is an appeal from Lae Police command boss, Anthony Wagambie Jnr.

Metropolitan Superintendent Wagambie Jnr said, police will remain neutral and allow the election process to take place in a transparent manner.

“I want to appeal to everyone to take ownership of the election process to make it safe, fair and trouble free.”

Wagambie Jnr said police will also be involved in awareness as part of its community obligation.

“We want to see that our people are not lured or suppressed from exercising their rights to vote for their Open Member for Lae and Governor for Morobe.

“To the people of Lae, the power to elect is with you. Think of what you want your future to be like, not of what you have to enjoy for a day or two.

“The next five years is in your hands.

“This is not a time to play around, as you will be at the receiving end of what will transpire at the end of the elections, and the type of leader you place in parliament to represent you and deliver services.

“I appeal to the candidates to be mature in their campaigns.

“You are all leaders in your own rights that is why you have been endorsed by your people and are standing for elections. Please show that leadership in campaigning,” Wagambie Jnr said.

The Eight weeks of campaign period will end on June 23, with polling the next day.

A total of 45 candidates have nominated to contest the Lae Open seat occupied by female MP Loujaya Kouza.
