The Manus Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector David Yapu has appealed to people in the province to take ownership of the election by ensuring the process of election flows smoothly.
Yapu said people should be allowed to exercise their democratic rights to cast their votes without undue influence, threat or fear.
He is asking for the continuous support and corporation from the people in ensuring a free, fair and safe election is conducted in the province without any disruption.
He said the campaign period which ends today has been quiet and peaceful so far and wants this to continue into polling and counting.
Meanwhile, a threat incident early this week on local NBC Journalist Reilly Kanamon by supporters of a candidate has been resolved between the parties involved after identified supporters apologized for their actions at the Lorengau Police Station.
About 19 polling teams comprising electoral officials, 12 Assistant Returning Officers and security personnel’s will be dispatched from Lorengau today to their respective LLGs in preparation for polling tomorrow.
The first two teams left for Manus’ Western Islands of Aua/Wuvulu and Nigoherm LLGs at 5:30pm on Thursday at the Lombrum Navy Base.
