PNGCWU rally behind Sir Mekere

The PNG Communication Workers’ Union (PNGCWU) has thrown its support behind independent candidates and political parties that are working to ensure that a new and transparent government formed after this election.

The executives of PNGCWU on Monday paid a courtesy visit to former prime minister and candidate for Moresby North West electorate, Sir Mekere Morauta with a bold message that the state of PNG’s national affairs were worsening and the situation demanded most urgent remedial actions.

PNGCWU President Nug Mamtirin told Sir Mekere that his return to politics has sent a message of hope to public and private sectors workers, self-employed people and ordinary citizens PNG-wide.

Mamtirin said PNGCWU has decided to go public as part of the union’s on-going awareness to inform their members and the public of very serious economic, financial and corruption issues affecting PNG.

“Our workers and the people are well and fully are aware of the many controversies of the O’Neill-Dion government and total failure to manage well the nation’s affairs.

“We’re using our nationwide network and affiliates telling them to not to vote for PNG candidates because they are the cause of the mess PNG is in,” Mamtirin stressed.

Sir Mekere thanked the PNGCWU executives for taking time to visit him and told them to stand up and speak out for the good and well-being of their union members as well as the country as a whole.

Meanwhile, the current biggest coalition party in the government, People’s National Congress (PNC) has endorsed 93 candidates around the country to contest this elections.

Party leader and Prime Minister Peter O’Neill is confident that his party will return and form the government.
