Morobe gears up for LLG elections

The Morobe Province Electoral Commission office is open for residents to confirm their name for the upcoming LLG elections.

Morobe is one province gearing up for the LLG elections.

Despite not receiving the Working Roll, residents are still urged to visit the electoral office in Lae and check their names.

Election manager Simon Soheke says they expect to receive the Working Roll in the coming weeks and have it distributed to each of the 568 wards in the Province for voters to check their names.

The “Working Roll” is the Electoral Roll used in the 2017 National General Elections.

It will be used to check and confirm names before the final roll is released for the LLG elections.

Soheke says if a voter’s name is not on the Working Roll, they will take note and request for a claim of enrolment form based on the list they have.

They hope to have the Working Roll out this month and April.

The final roll should be available by June or July.

Soheke has urged the people in Morobe to take ownership and ensure to check their names to vote.

He said usually people wait till the last minute and then blame the Electoral Commission for not doing its job.

The election dates are set for July to September 2018.
