Catholic Bishops raise concern on responsible voting

General Secretary of the Catholic Bishop’s Conference, Fr Victor Roche is urging all voters nationwide to vote responsibly and uphold and safeguard the country’s democracy.

He is also calling on all churches to stand together and advocate for honesty and transparency to prevail in this national elections.

In a press conference in Port Moresby today, Fr Victor spoke strongly about the rights to vote and the responsibilities that come with it.

He reminded all eligible voters to vote responsibly, wisely and truthfully.

He also challenged candidates and their supporters to refrain from perverting the electoral process and not to incite violence.

Do not buy votes, do not use force or intimidation to gain votes” said Fr Victor.

He further pointed out the media’s role in the election and challenged all news organizations to be fair, objective and neutral in their coverage.

He appealed to churches to minister to their congregation members and maintain Christian values and principles during the election period.
