PM visits Manus

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was in Manus on Wednesday on campaign trail with his People’s National Congress party candidates, Governor Charlie Benjamin and Job Pomat.

Pomat is contesting the Manus Open seat while Benjamin is running to retain his seat as Manus governor.

The Prime Minister was received at Momote airport by Governor Benjamin, Manus Provincial Administrator Andrew Posong, PPC Manus Chief Inspector David Yapu and other senior officers of Manus Provincial Administration, Heads of National Government Agencies, Provincial Executive members and other Community Leaders.

PPC Yapu said the joint Security Forces provided a full escort for PM O’Neill to the NBC beach at Lorengau town.

He was given a traditional welcome by garamut dancers at the ward 4 market area before delivering his speech to a large crowd of supporters for the two PNC candidates.

He was in the province for almost four hours before leaving for Port Moresby.

PPC Yapu said the campaign by PM O’Neill and his two PNC candidates was quiet and peaceful.

Overall, he said Manus has been quiet since the joint Security Force commenced their National Election 2017 Security Operation in the Province.

PPC Yapu commended the candidates and their supporters for peaceful and orderly campaign and wants this to continue until polling starts on 24 June.
