Your say on 2016 NRL Grand Final

Papua New Guineans love their rugby league.

The National Rugby League (NRL) Grand Final will be a conclusive and premiership- deciding game of the 2016 NRL season.

The game will be played today at the Sydney’s ANZ Stadium between the minor premiers; the Melbourne Storm and the Cronulla- Sutherland Sharks.

Loop PNG took to the streets of Port Moresby to find out which team they though would win this year’s grand final and why.

Joel of Gordons says he always been a diehard Sharks fanatic adding that he has placed a large bet on them already.

“My money is on Gallen this afternoon.”

A security guard upon hearing the question shouted saying, “Melbourne Storm ba win yah.” (Melbourne Storm will win).

Mary, although a Broncos fan says she is disappointed that her team (Brisbane Broncos) didn’t make it to the grand finals but says she will be a part time supporter for the Storms today.

Mary’s sister Claire opposed saying Storms don’t stand a chance against the Cronulla Sharks and the Sharks have come a long way to see the grand finale.

From the 10 people that Loop PNG talked to, majority were in favor of Melbourne Storm saying Smith and Cronk already have the grand final in the bag Storms.

History has it that in the 2016 NRL season; both teams have played a total of 31 games; Storm 21, Sharks 10.

Cronulla’s win earlier this year was their first against Melbourne since early 2012 with the storms having won 13 of the past 15 meetings.

The Storm have a winning 12-4 record at ANZ while the Sharks have just two wins from their past 11 visits and seven wins from 23 visits overall.

Melbourne and Cronulla have never met at ANZ Stadium. 

Papua New Guinean viewers will have to wait till 5pm this afternoon to watch the grand finale to find out which team will take the Provan- Summons trophy home.
