WNB upcoming singer plans to release solo album

West New Britain up and coming artist Gordian Waka is aiming to release his solo album by next year.

The title of the album is Trabel Fait and is being recorded and produced under Hotsprings Productions Studio (HPS) based in Kimbe, WNB Province.

The 24 year old whose parents are from Talasea and Hoskins in WNB discovered his talent and interest in music while in primary school where he played gigs with local bands in 2004-2005.

The idea of recording an album began in 2010 when he formed a band called Hauslines with four friends and was the lead vocalist.

However the recording didn’t work out and that same year Waka joined Wezon Multimedia Production (WMP) in Kimbe and worked as a sound engineer and video editor.

With the help of WMP managing director Joe Marum, they completed the album titled Tumbuna Man that featured hits including Ulamagi and Sisi which is sung in the Talasea language.

Waka confirmed that his solo album should be completed by mid-next year.

“My songs on the album are mainly about life, social issues and songs inspired by the environment,” said Waka.

The songs are a mix of reggae and hip hop and are sung in the Bola dialect of Talasea, Nabak dialect from Morobe, Kuanua of ENB, Pidgin and English.

“I like playing different styles of music but I love mostly hip hop, reggae, jazz and swing.

“It has been hard work and I look forward to releasing the album once it’s complete,” he added.

The singer dedicated the album to everyone who has helped him so far in his music career including his uncle Sticky of HPS, Joe Marum, Tesmon Marum and Becky Marum from WMP, his grandfather Tarzzy Metta, Dohn Waka and to all his family at Talasea and Hoskins.
