Fifty-three bikers from Wewak Urban Bike Association, who came to watch and support Momase Regional Besta Qualifiers, left yesterday with a thankful heart.
RBN Maintenance Limited, a local company in Madang town, came on board and supported the bikers with biscuit and water worth K500 and K100 cash to help them return to Wewak, East Sepik Province.
The bikers came on August 11, into the second day of Momase Regional Besta Qualifiers, to support their teams from Wewak, Ambunit, Maprik, Hulupu and Passam. And also, for the first time, to see how the teams from other provinces of Momase compete.
Team leader of the bikers, Sam Kang,i said they travelled on three dinghies with one carrying their bikes and two other boats carrying the bikers to Base camp in Bogia. From there they travelled to town.
Kangi said the aim of the boys is to show Momase that Wewak town has the potential to host the Momase Regional Besta Cup.
“We came here to show support and solidarity for our teams and at the same time, to show the people of Madang and Momase that the four corners of Wewak Urban are not what they see and have heard about.
“We have changed from boys to men and the so-called big heads in Wewak are us, coming to show that we are ready to host any future Besta Cup or PNG Football sanctioned tournament,” Kangi said.
He said the riders came from the 16 wards of Wewak Urban, forming up this Wewak Urban Bike Association. All are soccer players and lovers.
“This is not our first time to travel a long way to watch soccer. We have travelled to Aitape this year to support and cheer for our teams taking part in Pruaitch Cup and through that, we have gained confidence to continue to advocate and play soccer,” he said.
Kangi said Momase is a big region and such tournaments should be equally distributed in the provinces.
He said such favouritism will only kill the spirit of soccer in youths.
Kangi however, thanked the people of Madang for loving soccer and keeping soccer as the number one sport in the province. He further thanked RBN Maintenance Limited for their backing.
RBN Maintenance Limited owners, Reuben Neiman and wife Lucy, said the donation was to show their support to help youths play soccer and be soccer fanatics to help develop a better society.
