West Sepik police ready for voting

The security operations for the by-election for the West Sepik regional seat are on track, say police.

According to the West Sepik police commander Robert Gesa, his 397 police officers have all been briefed and are set to carry out their tasks at the polling sites and alongside the polling teams.

Gesa says that all 6 commanding officers engaged have also handed down their supplementary orders to their units ahead of the deployment.

He tells PNG Loop that despite the halt in the polling times from the 11th of July to today, his men are ready to carry out their duties.

The polling in the province had to be deferred to today in order to give adequate time for the security allowance of the officers to be sorted out.

All troops, Gesa says, will now be deployed alongside the 101 polling teams in anticipation for the 21 days of polling to see the province determine a new political head.
