We will perform better if looked after well, says teacher

Teachers will give their utmost best if the Government looks after them well.

“We really need the Government to look into teachers’ salary. What most teachers are receiving, I personally feel that it’s not enough,” said the lower primary section head of Koki Primary School, Joephine Solok.

The Grade 5E teacher, who has been in the profession for 32 years, told Loop PNG on Tuesday: “Teachers’ housing should also be considered, even though it is not a condition.

“If they look after their teachers and build houses I’m pretty sure their teachers will be the best.”

We want to do more but we are crippled due to lack of funds and support, Solok stated.

Meanwhile, she said the tuition fee free policy is a good initiative by the Government.

“But what we need are more teachers and more classrooms.”

Grade 5E, she said, consists of 36 students.

“It’s just too many,” the teacher stated.

She was speaking during the opening of Koki primary’s three new double-storey classrooms on Tuesday.
