WaterAid partners with sport association for awareness

WaterAid PNG for the first time has partnered with a sports association in the country to conduct its WaSH training workshop.

The Netball PNG Board, its National Teams and Technical Officials were part of WaterAids the greater prospect on Thursday at the Lamana Hotel in Port Moresby.

According to reports of the JMP Update 2015, PNG is in the top 10 countries with the greatest 60% of people living without access to clean water.

Moreover, in sanitation, PNG has also not been able to meet the MDG sanitation target.

Shockingly stats include PNG having one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world, 5000 babies die in PNG in the first month of their life, 7000 children won't reach their 5th birthday and a shocking 43% have stunted growth.

Therefore, in creating awareness of proper Health and sanitation, WaterAid has taken a huge step forward in efforts to improve these indicators and align with GoPNG WaSH Policy

The key takeaway from this workshop was the message to advocate for the importance of having access to clean water, good sanitation and hygiene practices.

Moreover, with the partnership training workshop conducted, PNG Netball and WaterAid will undertake a countrywide awareness program on WaSH program targeting the rural and remote communities in PNG.

This Training Program will be delivered to membership through the National Schools Outreach Program and Technical Capacity Building Program in partnership with WaterAid PNG and Water PNG.
