Warriors win Alotau rugby comp

Warriors are the champions of the Alotau Rugby League 9’s, wrapping up the season in style at the Habona Gaige Stand at the Alice Wedega Park.

Warriors were presented K2,000 as prize money, which was donated by the National Planning Minister and Member for Alotau Charles Abel.

Warriors led 18-10 at half time with a “man of the match” performance from Mo Sina, contributing to his team’s winning performance with three converted tries.

Opposing team Goilanai ran in a consolation try with an unsuccessful conversion to be in contention of the 2016 title.

The team, made up of New Britain Palm Oil employees and dependents, turned up in numbers to urge their team to victory.

In the end, Warriors proved to be too good, defeating a courageous Goilanai outfit 26 points to 14 to win the Alotau Rugby League 9’s competition.

They earned themselves K2,000 while Goilanai walked away with K1,000 prize money. Man of the match Sina received K500 cash prize.

Alotau town mayor Gita Elliot pledged the support of the Alotau LLG by presenting K1000 to the Alotau Rugby League Association.

Meanwhile, Alotau Rugby League 9s coordinator, Sipi Waikaidi, congratulated the 22 players that made the cut for Team Milne Bay to the PNG Games in November.

Again, Warriors players dominated the selections making up the Milne Bay Rugby 9s team.
