The villagers have so far been trained by Sustainability in Community Needs Assessments, Land Use Planning, Roles and Responsibilities of Executives, Financial Literacy and will also get training for mangroves and ecosystems' rehabilitation.
A total of 8,600 mangrove seedlings have been paid off and will be planted at selected plantations of NBPOL.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Emmanuel Kosi thanked the Departments Environment Officer for recognising the importance of communities and for trialling this project with their community. Most of the beneficiaries in this mangrove nursery were students and the monies received will go towards their school and project fees.
“This is the first of its kind and we hope to continue in programs with NBPOL,” Kosi said.
