Unitech and UPNG to resume classes

The Papua New Guinea University of Technology will resume class tomorrow, says Vice Chancellor Albert Schram.

‪‎”UNITECH students who are still off campus, classes resume on Tuesday (tomorrow). SRC and provincial representatives agreed and signed, and the administration accepted the extension of the boycott until 14 June,” Schram posted on his Facebook page.

“Coming Wednesday the Academic Board will make final rearrangement of the academic calendar, and see how sufficient time for exam preparation can be arranged.

“Nobody has been able to explain what purpose is served by further boycotting classes. The students' education can no longer wait. This is the moment to stand together and show courage tempered by wisdom,” Schram said.

But following the shooting of students of the University of Papua New Guinea in Port Moresby last week, UNITECH students’ representatives told media that they will boycott classes.

Loop PNG was unable to get comments from UNITECH SRC president when this story was published.

Meanwhile, UPNG Administration announced that classed will commence tomorrow.

It also successfully obtained a Court Order stopping the SRC or its agent to intimidate students to return to class.

But with what transpired last Wednesday, the majority of residential students have taken refugee with friends and family outside the campus.
